22R Will Not Idle All of A Sudden

Hi guys I was driving home on the highway doing about 90kms and when I stopped at some traffic lights the engine shut off, I started it again and then it turned off. I could keep it running, but only if I kept it above 2,500RPM, which was a nightmare for my clutch all the way home.

I got home, checked all plugs and stuff and they're fine (plugs and leads were done last week), all the hoses on the carb look to be in good condition etc.

It runs really rough through the rev range from 1,000-4,000 anything in between that it sort of misses, but over 4,000 it's smooth as it should be

Anything obvious that could be causing this? I hope it's nothing major, I haven't been working much lately and $$$ is an issue

thanks guys

Could the carb have been flooding? I guess you said it looked fine, but..

Alright the car ran fine all morning until I parked it, got in it started it, then it died again. I started it again, it was running fine until I got going and had to stop again. So all the way home it kept shutting off at every set of lights.

I took the air hoses off and looked in the carb, everything was a bit black so I cleaned it out with some silicone spray. Got the truck home now, don't even know where to start I know nothing about carbs

Please help guys this is my daily driver and I can't afford to go without a car and not work

Thanks

Been tinkering with all the vacuum hoses etc for a few hours, no result I took off the distributor cap and cleaned out all the points and whatever else was dusty

The car kicks over and idles (very very rough - sounds like a Mazda rotary) when it's cold, but as soon as the cold idle time is over it shuts off

I don't know what else I can do, I don't wanna take the whole carb out, there's way too many hoses connected to it

Edit my neighbor used to be a mechanic, he says it could be a fuel blockage.. I hope its only the filter or fuel pump

Replaced the fuel filter today, the old one was pretty dirty, car still does the same covered the carb in carb cleaner and it came up nice but still the same result, no idle after the cold idle is over I'm sending it in for a rebuild tommorow, I didnt want to put out those kind of $$$ but I need the truck for work so bad.

Edit: Got a 2nd hand carb out of a 1996 22R fitted up for $200 which is pretty good (Around $140US) Hope it's got a few years left in it.

My truck seems to have the same problem yours did. Is your truck running good now with the used carb?

Yeah used carb is out of a later model 22R truck.. Only had an issue with high idle, which was fixed with a screw adjustment
