Yeah, that's pretty low. Now I remember, you 'WERE' having smoking issues. I notice you stomp it through the mud pretty well in those videos(that's you, correct?)..... It could just be that the block got really hot and finally pushed those rings to give up the ghost. It's always best to do both, a dry and wet test. The instructions are in the Haynes, I believe. However, with numbers this low, and obviously lower than before, I'd say it's 'likely' time for a rebuild(I SAID LIKELY, not definitely). HOWEVER, I guess if all your valves were 'way off', it could cause a low compression problem, .....and yet, I thought you went through the head, no?

 

Timing being off? Not sure on that one, ...I wouldn't think it would make it that low. Besides, the numbers, before were bad enough to mean a 'tell' of some pretty serious issues on the rings or valves or something. Is it running alright with the timing where it is? If so, I wouldn't think it was too far advanced or retar*#d to make this low of a compression result.

I'm sure some Guru's will chime in, but I'd be guessing; Guides are gone, valves are way off, or more likely, the rings are just gone. Many guys on here have done re-rings without TOO MUCH issue, with the motor right where it is. Yours being a straight axle, I think makes it even easier if you end up needing to do that(if you need to re-ring but don't want to rebuild, you'll need to pull the oil pan-- 'anyone?'). If no one answers as quick as you need, maybe you could give Ted a call at engnbldr.com? Sure he'd be better help than I, hahaha.

i think the truck runs good it seems a little under powered just got back from town and no smoke.

 

Well, then just drive it till it gives up the ghost, 85...nothing wrong with that. Just be sure you don't damage a bunch more stuff than needs to be, by pushing it to the point where it blows a rod or something. No smoke and that low of compression? Something doesn't seem right, ...maybe the gauge is no good or the test was done with the wrong fitting? Same compression tester as last time?

If you rented this one, I would doubt there was a problem with it. And, as I said, you can always test it on a new motor from another car, ya know? You really just need to test one Cyl on another, newer vehicle.

I rented mine from Kragen(O'reily's). Seemed to work fine. I didn't need to add any fittings/extensions, ...it worked right in. Just seems kinda odd, really, that it's so low and not smoking. However, mine was running pretty well and NO SMOKE, at all, with 115 Lbs. or so across the board. So maybe that's normal for a fairly worn motor, eh?

 

well threw it on #1 cyl on my dodge work truck and its up to 115 so i dont think its the gauge...darn

 

Isn't your dodge new? So many threads, so lil time, I can't keep up any longer, hahaha. I thought you had a newer Ram, ....115# is not right for a newer truck, either. However, if you have some miles on the Dodge, that might be a good indicator that the gauge is fine, ya know?

Darn, indeed, 85. I know all that high rpm stuff in the mud is hard on these lil sewing machines, after a while. Not sure that has anything to do with what you're seeing, but I would imagine, if the motor was already tired a bit when you started that, ....the 5G's and spinning the tires in the mud stuff can take it's toll, you know what I mean?

If you do rebuild or find that you need to, just promise me you'll break it in properly before doing those mud-runs, ok? lol. Whatever you find, if you start a new thread for a build or something, let me know and I'll help in any way I can. Not quite the guru as some, but I'm sure I could be helpful.

PS> Have you thought of having a 'leak down' done by a shop? They are FAR more telling than a simple compression test, in some ways. Might be a thought. How do the plugs look? Are you burning up oil pretty fast after oil changes? Losing oil without any big leaks? All important things to know.

 

its a 2000 1500000 miles alotoooo no lie i gave it hell in the mud but i do try to stay under 4gs the plugs looked good after i cleaned them from the hg

Lol, ...sorry, ...no, I was saying that 115# isn't 'TERRIBLE' for a motor with 150g's on it, especially if you drive that one pretty hard, too. I'm sure you take good care of them, brudda, ..they just sometimes 'wear out', ya know? I'm sure your Dodge is fine, ya know? But 76# and such on the Yota? That's really low, 85! It could still run another 40K, ...who knows, ya know? But you'll be using up fuel and oil and eventually, the build that MIGHT be inevitable could end up costing you more than if you verify, now, "does it need a rebuild?", "Can I just re-ring it?", "Is it, rather, the Head-Valves, etc.?" ....and so on, and just start saving now, piece together the motor you want and then go at it, ya know? You're a 22r, so I wouldn't think it should take you as long, no injectors to fiddle with, etc. But first things first, you have to 'VERIFY', once and for all, "Is this motor done or not?" You could have a shop do it, but then you're at their mercy AND, you'll be out 'whatever' on the diagnosis.

Did you check the valves and seals while in there? Not that difficult to pull the V-cover and check your valve clearance, 85, ...might be worth a check, ..but at that low?...Hmmm, I don't wanna say 'rings', but it sure seems like the possibilities are limited regarding running that low of compression.

Have some homies that can drop by and go through it over some grub and an all day adventure? lol. Might just take that to get to the bottom of this, if you're not sure what else it could be.... What I mean is, "2-3 heads are usually better than one". ya know?

How are you on the 'affording a rebuild', if it's needed?

i put those little seals on the valves ye all of them they look like little (caps).. i might check the valves thoe maybe loose umm sorry no homies here only people that beg 4 $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$... maybe u can come down here its very scenic well despite the oil thats left in the gulf........

brought the truck to the shop monday and he calls today. comp was 95 leak down is 20%-27% he says thats not bad (as a brand new vechicle could leak 6-10%). tells me not to worry to much at those #s. the problem he says is the timing is off by two teeth. what yall think????? compression is up to 118 now.

how many miles are on it now? I have yet to check mine after the rebuild about 6,000 miles ago.
