22R freakin' oil LEAK

Aright, I replaced the valve cover and the half moon grommets, and oil is still leaking HARDCORE, I'm going through 1-2 quarts a day. None of the cylinders measured below 170 lbs of compression, so here is a pic. It's from the left side of the tranny looking up at the back of the valve cover, and the head. (obviously) just below the body at the top of the pic is the valve cover half moon grommet, and below that, is the fitting that I think the oil is leaking out of. the one with the two cables passing over it, and two bolts on top, and two bolts below it. what the hell is that thing?!

Thats the Rear Cylinder Head Plate and I believe its just for coolant but not 100% sure. Did you smear some RTV/sealant on the half moon plugs???

yeah I put some of the BLUE RTV silicone on the grommets, and it didn't do anything, and I felt the grommets today and the silicone is still there all over the bottom of them, so I'm unsure as to whether it could be the grommet stil, or the head plate that you pointed out. . .

can anybody give me some input as to whether I need to use the blue RTV, or the red RTV for the half moon grommets on the cylinder head for the valve cover? I used the blue rtv, and although it's holding fine, I have a feeling I should have used the red rtv. does it matter?

that plate blocks off oil as well. there is a coolant passage that goes throguh that but oil is blocked off in the center of it. You wont find a gasket for it at an auto part store. I just got a thick sheet of cork and made my own gasket.

is that plate low enough to where I should drain the oil before taking it off and tightening it? I guess I might as well if I need to change the oil too . . . also, are those 4 10mm bolts the only ones holding the plate on? can I use some RTV?

i think there are 5 bolts holding it on and yes. you just remove those bolts and kinda move the air tubes out of the way . you will loose quit a bit of coolant if i remember correctly but not so much oil. Even if it doesnt turn out to be your problem it is a good idea to seal up that plate. I would use a little silicone to hold on the gasket to the plate but u shouldnt need any between the gasket and head.
