22r exhaust

First I'd like to thank you guys for helping me to appreciate my truck. After it had gotten stolen twice and left for dead I didnt want to see it again. But you guys helped me see its value.

Anyway I have an 84 pickup with a 22r. The exhaust dumps into two smallish pipes out of the manifold then merges into one pipe at the firewall. Thing is my exhaust is rusty and leaking and the entire thing needs replaced. My question is will it hurt power or emssions if I just have it dump straight to one pipe out of the manifold?

Well if you want to run a straight pipe? you'll gain no power, and youll lose torque and alot of it...and if you plan on taking the cat off, don't ask about it and you best well put on a flame suit.. my trucks exhaust didn't have one when I got it, oddly the guy before me took it off so I never put one back on and I went with a 2/14 inch exhaust, yes that is the size you want it will increase power in the 2-4 k rpm band, also for a muffler flowmaster 40 series are good, dynomax super turbo (Ive got one) sound decent, and a cherry bomb glasspack is ok too... Id reccomend you get a three inch slash tip to make it sound deeper.... That help?

Off topic, you may want to do some searches on implementing a Kill Switch or two if not already done!

On topic - check into some headers if you need to replace your manifold & exhaust. TR is right, make sure you keep the 'llegal and not PC topics (such as no cat)' out of your posts or you'll soon find yourself an 'outsider'.

Yeah I now have two kill switches in it so I dont think it will get stolen again.

I am not going to remove the cat its just most of the pipe is rusty and needs replaced and I dont have any smaller pipe so I was concerend about making it into a 4 into 1 exhaust instead of the 4 into 2 into 1.

4-1 is fine, it really doesnt matter, with your header youll want a tri-y header and a good muffler.. thas about all
