My '85

Here is a pic of my recently purchased '85 4runner. I has been sitting for 10 years so I have a lot of work to do but it only has 81k! Sorry, I don't know how to post big pix.

'85 SR5, purchased stock in 2001:

Multiple tops, depending on the AZ time of year:

Where to start?
Optima red-top awesome since spring of 2003

4.88 junkyard diffs
Rear springs up front
Supra LSD in rear, Lock-right in front.

Longfield 27spline birfs (I only run 35" tires)

Single Marlin 4.7 case, twin sticks.

57" mazda rear springs (the hype and rage BEFORE the chevy 63's)

Square front shaft

custom old school crossover steering with ZUK's help.

Always doin' somethin' to it.

nice 4runner, I was wondering how you like your single 4.7 transfer case , is it low enough , where you dont use your clutch much , you just let the clutch in 1st and climb steep stuff

Holy Cow! This thread has some of my original posts! DANG!

That same 87 runner has had A LOT of changes, and is now a parts truck for my new 89 1st gen 4runner.

Way to much to list that has been done to the 87, but it went through some pretty good changes: ARB's, Complete DOM steering redo, dual cases, flat belly, bumpers, sliders, gas tank relocation, etc....

The 89 has a redone front frame, a 3.4 L, FJ80 front axle, hellfire fab knuckles, ARB's F/R, coilovers, links, and is still very much under construction.

I ran a 4.7 by itself for a few years. Didn't like it inbetween obstacles: Way too slow. But, on the rocks, it was pretty good. I like duals with the 4.7 a lot better.

Agreed.
On obstacles, just a touch of the gas peddle is needed. But, it sucks between the obstacles, like fire roads, etc. Knowing what I know now, I would prefer 2 stock cases bolted together at least. At the time, I couldn't afford to replace the crossmember again, let alone get the drive shafts re-done.

I went with a single 4.7 case because I bought the whole thing for $250, case and fresh new Marlin gears. I'm always looking for the deals!
