1985 rear window not rolling up or down

Hello Everyone. I have an 85 4runner that the rear window does not roll up or down if the switch at the center console is depressed. A little background: I recently unbolted all bolts (except the two funky rear bolts) of my roof since I want to remove it. However, I accidentally left the window rolled up. I heard about the two bolts in the rear that need to be left in in order for the window to roll up. I never touched the two funky rear bolts so that cannot be the issue. I thought bad motor, but if I hook up a battery, the window rolls up and down. Can't be bad relay since the rear wiper works. I also checked the connector at the switch and everything seems fine. Anything I am missing?

Thanks,
JARED

If it worked before you removed the bolts, then put them back. Just because the wiper works doesn`t matter, there are four seperate relays in the relay control that work the window up and down, the rear wiper and the rear defrost if you have it.

The bolt you should leave in is the third one from the back of the left side of the car... (Although BOLT 2 on my picture below isn't really a bolt... you get the idea...)

Seriously gotta clean the inside of that car....! Hey its a work in progress!

yeah. I'd say put all the bolts back in and see what happens. Also, my rear wiper doesnt work, but I had the button on for it and my window wouldnt go up or down. also the window lock button effects the rear window also.

Pretty good explanations of the wiring and FAQ's for the window

Read 4crawlers's page, and then read it again.

check the wiper to make sure that it is seated correctly. Even if the blade is in the right position, there is a pin switch(like what you find in your door jam to turn on the dome light) that needs to be depressed. Its located behind the interior trim that houses the wiper motor.

I had alot of trouble with my back window switch.

Eventually i just gave up and wired a dpdt switch directly to the window bypassing all the relays and safety stuff.

worst case you can always do that. hope you get it figured out.

It ended up being one of the bolts. I installed them all on the drivers side again and the window rolled down. Thanks all
