do you need lift and more travel in the suspension, or do you just want the tires to not hit the cab?

You get what you pay for.

Cheapest would be a body lift, and that'll do you fine.

Just trow in a 3" body lift. Its what your looking for, cheap, stops tire rub, wont effect ride....

depends on the amount of lift.
1" body lift shouldn't cause a problem- theres some slack in the brake lines (the steel lines are coiled) and the fill neck should be long enough.
2"- you're getting close to maxing out the brake lines. the fill neck will most likely not reach... it may, but it may not. you could cut the hose and put a piece of stainless pipe between the two sections in order to lengthen it, and you might have to replace the vent tube.
3"- is really pushing it. if you're carefull, you might be able to unwind the brake lines to work. the fill neck will need extended.

also...
with more than 1", you're going to run into issues with the radiator: since it's bolted to the body, the radiator will be raised and will cause issues with the fan shroud. better kits should come with drop brackets for the radiator.
you'll also have issues with the steering column. better kits should come with a new steering bearing for the firewall to help alleviate that.
there will likely also be issues with the shift linkage so you need to make sure that is addressed with the kit too.
there are also issues associated with the bumpers, and as before, better kits address that.

if your truck is a column shift automatic, don't expect to buy a kit to lift it.
