84 and 85 used a differnt motor, some parts are not interchangeable.

The 85 had a shorter block so your pistons, rods, crank, timing cover, and head will be different

well, you cant really just throw any piston in there it's an extremely precision fit. Why do you think you need a rebuild? Because the pistons and cylinders are worn, throwing another potentially worn pison in an already worn cylinder wont help anything
To answer your question you will need 84 or earlier pistons.

If your going to do all of that you really should just do it right the first time. You wont be happy having to do it again because you went the cheap route.

Did you do a compression test before you took it apart? If she's still holding 150psi then you probably can put it off for a while.

In my case, I could only hold 50psi after 6 cranks. Terrible.... I'll have to have my block bored and honed which will require .20 to .30 over pistons/rings to be installed. I have a shop that'll do all of that and dip it for about 200 bucks - to give you an idea of price. Then new pistons/rings, rebuild kit, new valves, new timing equipment w/ metal guides and a bit more - probably lookin at a grand or so all said and done. At least I'll have a brand spankin new engine that should last me a very long time.
