wiper linkages

With TS Fay dropping on me at this time it made me think about the wipers on my '79. Do the linkage rods have replaceable gromments in them like some other auto makers use? You can move my wiper arms about three inches one way. Sometimes when they are on the drivers side will wipe off the side of the windshield and the passenger side come halfway over onto the drivers side.
I was hopeing to get an idea before I tore all of it out and found that there was nothing to be done but replace it all.

TIA,

Crtzlow

most likely , its the wiper arm itself .. the stud from the linkage is splined .. and the arm is a press fit on to the splines . just try tightening down the nut a bit , it might be loose ? be carefull though , you dont want to overtighten and break the stud , otherwise you will be replacing the linkage ..

If tightening it does not work , you may have to replace the wiper arm .

to answer your original question .. no the bushings are not avaliable seperatly .

hope that helps .

Thanks for the info. I was afraid of that. It is the linkage instead of the wiper arm. You can see the linkage arm slack when you move the wiper arms. I guess I'll check the rolled '83 I've got and see if they are in any better shape. That or either fabricate some new ones as I imagine new ones (if available) would be like giraffe nookie........way up there.

Thanks again,

Don

getting wipers and motor to work together

I removed the motor on my 92 pu and picked up a used linkage at the junkyard.

I try to synchronize the motor and the linkage but with no luck.....

Any suggestions are appreciated

I know this is an old thread, but as far as the wiper linkage goes, can a link from another year be made to work on the 79-83s?
