Gas out the bottom.... OF THE CRANKCASE? I'm guessing you still have the head attached, since you didn't specify, but said, "RINGS" in there, lol.

Wow, ...well, tear it down time, eh?

no mark, head is off the block, flipped it over, (spark plugs in of corse) and poured a little gas where the fireing chamber is on the head and got gas coming through the valved from the top side, if that makes sense, flip it over where the rocker arm assemby is upside down, and pour gas into where the valves and spark plug is, going to try the rings tonight or tommorow,

poured some gas into the cylinders on top of the pistons and guess what! it took almost 20 min for even a drop to come out, thats about average, so rings are good, looks like the valves are burnt in it, should start the head job tommorow if the boss man doesnt yell surprise and slap a motor in my room and say build it.....

Us old grandpas love to watch our grand kids accomplish things in life. My grandson is learning quite a bit wrenching on my 81 resto. Before he didn't even know "righty righty, lefty loosey". LOL

finished the head today and i must say, if driven any longer i would have needed a new one,i had to really grind on the valve seats to get it right because the intake valve on the #1 cylinder was so burnt in warps i needed a new one , which was causing my 0 compression on my #1 cylinder, OK check, why was it burning the valve? my guess? what looks to me is timing , wish i would have taken pics but my phone didn't charge so i left it home, anyways, it looks like it was pre-detonating due too the amount of carbon and burning on the backside of the valve, thus telling me, it was firing before the intake valve was closed all the way, ok so after a new rocker arm assemble, all new valves, valve seats, valve springs, cam bearing and freeze plugs in the head ive ot about 70$ in it, ok check, my new list

1. head gasket, Toyota OEM, 58$
2. dual row timing set from engbldr, 68$
3. have rad professorially cleaned and painted, 45$
4. water pump, thermostat, 40$
5. complete gasket set from work, 80$
i know there's going to be a head-gasket in the set the problem is its rock auto, i hate there head gaskets
6.fluids, plugs, plug wires and various filters, haven't checked yet but im guessing around 50-60$

so overall my cost left should be around 450$ before shes ready be put back in the truck,
if yall see anything else i should replace just throw it out there, im open to sugesstions for sure!

Hmmmmmm..... Sounds like you're done with the head.... Otherwise I'd have said, "if you're gonna cam it, NOW IS THE TIME!"... Only 118$ more, right? BUT, alas, it's not 'necessary'.... I just went through such a nightmare reusing my Original CAM that ended up HAVING to be replaced, anyway.... That I would never take that chance again unless it passed EVERY conceivable inspection/test But yes.... 140$ shipped or so more might be money you don't HAVE to spend(140$, unless it would just ship with the package you're already getting?)....

PS> "new rocker assembly">>>>>>>??????????? Just curious... You mean 'literally' new aftermarket? Or 'new to you' or what? DON'T LIKE aftermarket rockers, Josh... 'NO-NO', lol.... Just making sure. Not being negative... just trying to save you ANY drama, ya know? I'm guessing you mean you had the rockers hand lapped? Give me the low down, homie hehe.

PSS> Freeze plugs????????? Just sayin..... Lil easier when all the goodies are off it, lol. Gonna have coolant flowing MUCH more powerfully now.... never know, ya know?

PSSS> How about a JET ENGINE MOD? hehehe... jk.

SOUNDS GREAT! glad you're able to keep her, man! Great news! And additional good news that the head was salvageable for 70$!!!!!

BTW..... Before you spend 58$ on a HG..... Look up www.22reperformance.com ..... They sell OEM HG's for 38$ I think? Can't remember.... just look it up anyway, right?
