Lol...... "Hey girl... howzabout gettin a thirsty man some mead!?!?!?!" hehehe.

Hey, I just don't always find that doing things 'to get by' the first time are always the 'cheapest' in the long run, ya know? You can't 'know what you got' that way... But more importantly, WORSE/MORE COSTLY repairs can come about by letting things go 'as far as you can' before you do it 'all out', ya know? MORE THAN A COUPLE guys I've met on here have done so and wound up either spinning a bearing and destroying a crank that's already 20/30 or scoring a block that's already at close to the limit or worse.... rod through the block, etc. Having it all out, it's at least worth having everything mic'd and gone through to look 'a lilllllllll closer', right? You might find you don't need a full head rebuild/new head, I just can't know, right? lol... But something's wrong.... the fact that you can't find it would bug me even more, hahaha. I'd always be wondering what 100 mile trip am I going to hear a 'pop' or something like that. YET, sometimes we have to do what we have to do... I TOTALLY get that... Can't always afford even a gasket set, let alone a partial or full rebuild.

HG's are tricky... NOT gonna say Nippon OEM isn't the best way to go.. But mine blew in 5 minutes... with NOTHING we could find being wrong... Cleaned up, popped in a Fel-Pro Permatorque Number??? and hit it to 63# and it's been fine for 6K miles... Last 4Runner I had I put 169K miles on the same Fel-Pro HG... NEVER gave me a problem up until the day it was totaled. 24$! lol. Rock? Not sure... Keep hearing mixed things and honestly? I can't get enough of that thread by "Trainwreckinseattle"... But it seems to go around and around... Some people use them and run 100K and never a problem.. others.... they're having to do them over at 12K? (guys who do this for a living, btw)...

I'm pretty sure what happened to me was NOT the Nippon HG.... it was the engnbldr timing cover that sat on the dowels just fine.... but was OFF at the head(high on the right).... Put the original one back on, seemed to be dead on level(even though it was NOT from this block! LOL)..... But it was SO SLIGHT I figured....................... See where that's going? hahaha. It blew almost immediately, as I said... Pulled it, slapped on the Fel-Pro and it's been fine since.... not sure what to say on that, lol.

Wishin you the best and I'll be watching... lemme know if you need anything, who knows, I might be able to help ......

i know exactly what you mean mark, do it once do it right, took the block and head into work today (remember guys, i work at a machine shop) didnt get to do anything with it, were just too budy, had to assemble two cummins marine engines by lunch or so and get them ready for pickup, lucky the pistons and crank and all that was in, was just head and turbo and such, gonna leave it for the week or so till i get some free time, with the top ring wear on the cylinders i think its going to need bored .20 over, hate that i have too do it bc now i gotta buy all new pistons, oh well, i know i needs pics up....

Maybe you could trade someone with a set or something on Yotatech, etc., for some goods you have? Might be a dude with a kit that shipped and he just doesn't need it anymore? Worth a look... At least then you'd possibly save a lil on it, right? (I just don't like "NEW" things w/out warranties... Heck, I don't even like "new TO ME" things without a warranty if I can help it, ya know? lol... BUT, gotta do whatcha gotta do to save, right? 'TIMES IS TUFF'! lol.

one thing i am happy about is the double row timing chain, but on the flip note it looks like the chain has been hitting the chain guide bolts being as there all flattend out, def have to address this problem

theres also alot opf carbon built up on the valves, just the number one cylinder though

instead of buying a thread chaser i was going to run my bolts in all the way and pull them out and keep cleaning them along with shooting air into the holes, is that doable? also do the head bolts have to go back in the exact hole? thats how i kept them, ya know, just in case

the block didnt have too many perfections, might machine it anyways

from what i can tell the headgasket didnt even blow, ive looked all over, i keep thiniking the rings blew or the head cracked, i wouldnt know why though

this is how the motor sits of now except in my build room in the shop in the corner, just waiting on time to magni flux the head to find any cracks

You mean dye testing? >>>>> You COULD do it in your spare time if you're just too busy at work, Josh... I THINK you can get the stuff at SOME parts stores...maybe all... not sure........ Maybe hot tank it first a couple times?

mark, theres a complete 22r at work with no tag on it, meaning its a core motor or a customer didnt pick it up. im hoping i can grab it from the boss cheap if thats the case, magnaflux is checking the head for cracks, put a magnit on the head and introdcue metal dust all over the head, the dust will fill in any cracks and youll be able to see it. as fars as parts go if i cant get the long block, im just going with engrbldr, minus a headgasket, im useing toyota OEM for the headgasket due to the issues ive had with them. and liveoffroad thanks man! def wondering why she gave out myself, im thinking someone ran it hot.... bbut i can only guess at this point, its funny, i tried buying this truck when it was running and driving but the dude wouldnt part with it for anything apprently, well 6 months later looky what i got

the more i think i wonder if a diesel swap would be a tad bit more effcicient, theres a 1ktze on ebay for 3100 bucks, bit of a coin, would take a few months to save, but im wondering if the overall output would be worth it, more research

Aint it the truth, Josh! ...... But you're workin... which is REALLY great right now! lol... And, it'll come in time. My buddy just lost his job of 20 years.... right when his savings went into 'untouchable' type things.... Now he's selling his toys, his projects... all of it, just to get by. .... NOT EVEN lecturing you on 'you should just be grateful'... I HATE THAT! lol... Just saying I AM grateful cuz I know it can be and has been worse at times. Pics of the painting going on? Or just gonna wait til it's all kinds of stuff to show?
