Question Turbo my 22r?

okay so I was throwing around the idea of turbocharger my 22r its from an 81 I just rebuilt only few thousand miles on it. I know I could do a blow through carb or do fuel injection. Blow through seems easier as it is already carbed and I know tuning will be an issue, I know I would need better head gasket, head studs, and if running over maybe 5lbs I should switch to RTE pistons.
Let me know on your ideas of this I was going to fab up my own turbo set up is there anything else I need to know about or what? I am still lost on this idea any ideas or help would be grateful.

if your going to go through alot to get more power, why not look into a 3rz swap a LOT of good info on it. im not sure how much your looking at spending on all of that, but people get the 3rz swap done for around 1500.
Just a thought.

Edit: just noticed your from spokane!! im 45 minutes north! wont be there for a year, just like seeing people from around my parts!!

Well doing a blow through setup with a turbo on a 22r will be harder to do then prolly a 3rz swap. I have a turbo 22re not 22rte.

Wink

It seems you really are unsure what you want !!!

Figure a realistic budget then add 1/2 again .You are limited only by your budget

There is so much information on the internet look around .

As for a diesel the Cummins 4 cylinder is a option.

Yeah I considered the 4bt just hard to find and bulky. I am actually leaning towards the propane set up and turbo in the future. Propane seems easy and cheaper cost wise and is cleaner which is always better last it responds to boost better than gas now that I know I can't do efi on my motor due to it being a 81 block and head

Well even with the propane setup you are still looking at around 3000 dollars to do it or more.

Where are you getting 3000 I get 2000 and the turbo would be a future plan in a couple years. I would be building my turbo system from scratch

I am just trying to make cheap power really not much power just more. I could slap on a rebuilt 20r head I have sitting around and run propane with that. never heard of someone doing it though.

Turbo and cheap should never be used in the same sentence unless you use unreliable in conjunction with turbo and cheap. You lose power with propane also. Propane has less energy pound for pound to gasoline.

Turbocharging a 22r with propane I have seen it done once or twice. So doubt you will find much help on yotatech.

This is really one of those questions that if you have to ask on a forum on how to do it you prolly don't have the knowledge or skillset to accomplish it properly.

Well I have lots of sources and know how I just like hearing others opinions I've built and work on many cars with turbos.

I'm leaning more towards throwing on my 20r head and running propane in the future. And everything I've head the only way you loose power is if your switching to propane on a 22re the carb versions stay the same if not more
