At times my truck decides it doesn't want to turn over. Usually when it's cold or I haven't driven it for awhile the starter doesn't seem to work. If I roll the truck and pop the clutch it will turn over. The batter cables are all fine. I'm thinking there's a dead spot on the starter and I need a new one. Has anyone else had this problem?

 

Yes. Your starter could be on the way out. You can pull it and do a home diagnosis if you have a multi meter and the Manual. Do you have both?

 

If you dont, just take it to a local parts store, they will usually check them for free. It's really easy to take out, 2 bolts. Just make sure you disconnect the battery or it could be a shocking experience.

yep if your battery is good and starter is good .. should
" er' er' er' errr err' err er er " anyway .

 

note that a lot of times it is just the contacts of the starter. Fairly easy to replace and not all that expensive. 4crawler sells them. Or shops that just sell contacts could match to what you have...


sorry to be butting in over here but this is common for older Yota starters of all eras/vehicles.

 

I haven't taken my starter off yet because it won't quit snowing long enough. We have about 3' on the ground. Had to move my truck today to plow. It was -14 F last night and I jumped in and my truck started without any problems. My 25 year old Yota continues to amaze me. I will add though that with 33x12.50's it's a real pig in the snow and ice. Too much surface area for so little weight.

Also, I got some sandbags for the back of my truck at kroegers... I really helped with the deep snow... I got 4 bags for 18 bucks, adding 240 lbs to the back.

 

Hopefully we won't see it that cold again for awhile, but it looks like it might snow again today. I can try some weight to help with my traction, but with 33x12.50's and lockers front and rear it doesn't do well on the snow packed roads.
