On my 80 4x4 where the shifter bolts onto the tranny case at the top, right below the rubber boot, there is tons of slop in the bolts (about 3/4"). Is there supposed to be some rubber bushings in there? It doesn't seem like you can tighten the bolts anymore, so that is what I am assuming? If there is supposed to be some bushings in there, where do you purchase them?

 

If I understand the problem correctly, then yes it should bolt solidly to the trans. Sounds like you need shorter bolts, you should be able to get those at a parts or hardware store. If im wrong let me know.
