Thanks Dropzone and Waskilly from former post.
Foolio... When I orginally wrote that first post of mine, it was for the 22re, most applies to the 79-95 as well. A friend of mine and me were able to do a whole cab swap on an 83 in about 6 hours and that was including a lunch break in town and leaving the drive train in. We were both experinced at it so that makes a difference on time wise.
We used a engine hoist for the front and a tractor from the side with a chain to the back of the cab and was able to lift the cab off and roll it out backwards. Not saying that you will have it done in a day, but a weekend is doable with long hours and most of the above applies to yours as well. Nothing to be worried about.
Seems like I recall that removing the fuel lines on the passenger inner fender is the best place on a 22r which I didnt mention in my first post.
What I did when getting it legal was just basically like I purchased another truck as Missouri goes by the cab VIN and took the bill of sale to the DMV just paid taxes on the purchase of a cab. (taxes on $200 isnt much and told them I was doing a restore). I then stapled my orginal title to the new cab title. Both titles were in my name and I sold that truck to a new owner and explained why he had two titles and showed him the VIN on the passenger side behind the front tire and cab and what I had done. In Missouri it is $25 just to get a title in your name. I have titles on trucks that I no longer have on junked or parted out trucks. I just suggest having the titles in your name so that no one can ever say "hey, that was my truck."
I did another one and used a frame from a salvage. Dont get one that insurance totaled on it or you have to go thru having it safety inspected an that applies to the cab as well. Not to big of a deal, but is just easier. When they crush cars they turn the VINS in and it can be traced back to you as be legal so I didnt have a title on one, but kept the sales reciept. Not worrid about it ever being checked or ever coming back on me..
I did stop a state trooper and told him what I had done each time on both trucks and he looked them over and said no problem and was interested in what all was involved.
On a 79-83 the center cab mounts tend to be rusted out if rust is an issue and maybe the floor pans.

I have swapped cabs 3 times. time consuming, but doable I took all the vin tags off trashed truck and installed on donor cab. like nothing happened. If you do cab swap and cut floors and passenger battery section of front inner fender out. I would purchase from you plus shipping cost.If they are rust free/solid. help to defray cost. let me know!

Foolio...sorry to hear about your motorcycle getting stolen. I added some information on post 6. Most applies to the EFI but still alot of the steps are needed for non EFI and 1st gen trucks. If you see anything I missed can you let me know and I will add it to it. I am helping another person do a swap without removing the drive train.
The lower part is what I can think of right off without pulling the drive train.

If you decide to go the square headlight route try this:
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/pts/3427149481.html
He only wants $80 for the cab $80 for the front window and $40 for the back. Might talk him down as a package deal. No doors though. Can't remember for sure but I think I remember you need the passenger side
