Radiator flush question

Since I will shortly be replacing my heater core (thanks to slacker) I was going to go ahead and flush the whole system. I've never done a flush before, Is there a method to doing one?

when i did it, i had the car runnin, wit the heater on. i just used a garden hose. and its holding up beautifully. just make sure the cars running and the heater is on so it gets everything out of every coolant passage

Ditto. Take the hose and just keep the radiator filling with water. Once it heats up and the thermostat opens, the water pump will push all the old coolant out. If you WERE really concerned about getting the perfect water/coolant ratio.. you can open the engine coolant drain. Its a damn pain to get to.. but otherwise you will have just pure water in the block and when you fill up the radiator it will throw your mix off.. that being said... AHHH if you live in a climate that never reaches the extreme temps.. to hell with it.

Opps just saw you lived in bigfork, this is a hands up to you. My dads the sheriff in Livingston, im a good MT boy myself. Damn do I miss me some big sky country!

In order to clean the debris from the water jacket, open the block drain and flush through that. Sometimes a coat hanger is needed to pull the chunks out! This drain is on the rear of the block, below the exhaust manifold.
