I've been looking for awhile to find a tailgate for my '83. I had finally found one, (had to have the middle latch...) brought it home and *boom* would not fit. I don't know if it's a problem with the tailgate or with the bed. The tailgate is too wide and one side is taller than the other when the hinges are attached. So....

Are there different tailgates for this same year toyota? i.e. longbed version, shortbed version?

I've been driving my truck without a tailgate for over two years now, could the bed be tweaked?

If anyone has a tailgate for sale for a 1983 truck, let me know.

Im in the same boat lol, they want 80 at the wrecker yards for a blank one with no hardware.

 

i think theyre all the same your probly a little twisted up or somethin

 

yep .. they are the same .. (79-83) long or short ..
the only differance is center latch , or side latch .

even a 84-88 style gate will fit .. It'll look like crap , but it will fit .
