power steering write up

Hello I'm buying a complete power steering setup and I have searched for a good hour and my.wife is getting mad at me but I just wanted to see if some one has a write up on this or some pics to walk me through it. I'm sure it isn't much to it but I just want to get a good idea of how it all works thanks

You might be able to see how things are bolted up from by engine and truck build threads.

I took a bunch of pictures of my system and put them on my Flikr site. For some reason some of the Napco 4x4 people think they can adapt Toyota power steering to our Napco trucks. I guess it's possible, but I'm not interested. Do you want me to post my pictures here?

I just marked the holes on the reservoir mount on my fender well and drilled. As long as it sits level it's okay. There aren't any holes for one if your truck didn't originally have power steering.

You might get something from the pics of my p/s pump and idler setup.

You will probably need the additional crank pulley addition.

The cooler mounts by going through the radiator mount sheet metal and bolts in front of the radiator. You can see the cooler and the res. above the left wheel well. Mine had holes already drilled from the mount.

I never took these for the Napco guys, as there is plenty of firewall under those old GM hoods.

Adding few more pics and explanation, as requested. These are parts from an 82 4x4 power steering. Your parts may be similar or mount in a different location

This is a pic of where my cooler and reservoir are mounted. The cooler is mounted with the brackets that were on the cooler when removed. One bolt goes in the bar in front of the radiator, the other through a hole to the side of the radiator, the cooler goes through the oval slot. The reservoir is bolted to the vertical side wall above the left wheel, the holes were already there.

This is my cooler. The short hose goes to the steering box. The long one goes to the reservoir, I can't remember if it was to the bottom or side port.

The port on the steering box with the yellow cap, is where the shorter hose above is clamped to. The hose with the tape on it is the pressure hose from the pump.
