Plug Read

I did a little tune up and decided to change the plugs out because it seemed to be miss firing. Here is what i found. I blew the exhaust gasket on my Thorley header because some studs backed out on me. Will be putting in a new gasket and that should help quite a bit. Anybody want to give me their interpretation of the plug colors and what it means. Truck info in Signature.

Seems greyish, it would be better if we could get a closer shot. With these pics, I would think you are running a bit lean.

I think you are right. I have tried adjusting the carb and fuel pressure regulator, but it seems to always be a little lean.

Fuel pressure regulator must not be played with unlike a fuel injected motor, it should be set at 3-3.5 psi. I have no experience with the weber 32/36, only 38, but I have read that on a good running stock 22r it is spot on, but any other mods like a header, intake manifold, cam, headwork will require bigger jets, and you seem to have all of that.

I was the one talking about the Innovate A/F meter, not sure if he has too on a different thread.

I am saving up for a Weber 38 now. I really need it since its not worth rebuilding and re jetting the one that i have. What is the best place to get a good deal on a NEW Weber 38? I have looked and can find them for around 300.

That AF meter is really awesome. Maybe someday i'll add that to my arsenal of gauges.

SPEAKING OF AFR GAUGES... who would choose the innovative over an AEM UEGO? I haven't found any details that list the specific specifications for the innovative afr, but I've got a UEGO in my go fast car. Thoughts?

You can tune the hell out of a weber 32/36, it flows 325cfm which is pretty good, the 38 flows 390 cfm (at 3'' of vac.), if you get a 38 the stock carb setup is probably going to be closer to what you need but for cheaper you can get a jet kit for around 60$ and play with yours. One of the only sure source that I know where you can get a real genuine weber is carbsunlimited.com. It is also the cheapest I have found. weber carbs direct are knock offs, and many others are, check the choke cover colour.

Carbsunlimited.com redirects to Carburetion.com Are those the same thing? They also sell an aftermarket (black) electric choke. But i can see that in the pictures one is black and one is white.

Since i have the 32/36 installed with the adapter plate, am i going to need to get another conversion kit, or can i just reuse the same one?

Also, why is there such a price difference between the electric, water and manual choke? $45 more for a manual choke? Seems like that should be the cheapest option. Any preferred over the others? I used to have manual on my 32/36, then converted it to water until it started leaking now i have an electric that does not seem to work too well.

Yes that is the correct website, not sure about the pictures, the price difference must be the choke mecanism. I have an electric choke and it doesn't really work, it may need adjustment.

I thought the manual choke was the cheapest. I ordered mine off eBay for about $240 I think and it's a manual choke. Only issue I had was seller took all the pieces out of the redline box and put them into a smaller box to save on shipping. I emailed him about it and he offered to refund me but I junk it's a genuine weber. It has the castings on it.

240$ for a genuine weber is very cheap, I searched and searched for many weeks and the cheapest I got was from that website. All other ones I saw that were cheaper had signs of it being a replica.

It's been a while so I don't fully remember but in the weber threads I put up a link that let's you know if you are buying a real or a fake.

I'm pretty sure there is a casting on the accelerator pump and a casting on the body I think.

Wow that is pretty cheap! And it does look genuine! When I was shopping for my 38 the manual chokes were always the more expensive and there was nothing around that price, but I think the 38 is a bit more expensive too. Here is how to find out if it is genuine or not http://genuineweber.blogspot.ca/

I just ordered my 38 from Carbsunlimited.com , i have been having carb issues and have built everything on it, so i figured it was worth the extra $30 to ensure that it is a genuine Weber and won't cause more issues down the road.
