Overcharging Battery....???

Ok, as the title says my battery is overcharging. At idle its charging at 17.5 V and with rev, 17.8; this is as of five minutes ago. In the last two weeks I have replaced the battery, and the voltage regulator twice. The chances of two faulty voltage regulators from the same store is low, I hope. I had the alternator bench tested and it passed, it was charging at 14.3 V or whatever it's supposed to be at. The resistance from the positive terminal to the alternator is about .5 V.

So my questions are: has anyone had this type of problem? fixes? other reasons that might cause such a head scratcher? As always, thanks guys.

If it is overcharging, the problem lies with the voltage regulator. Period. Thats my experience at least. I'd say before anything else you get a voltage regulator from a different place.

PS its logical to think you'd not get 2 bad parts from the same shop but my grandpa went through 6 starters before he went someplace else and got one that lasted til he sold the truck

I might have to go that route again. I guess I can take this one back and get a different brand. Anybody got a recomendation for voltage regulator brands? The two I've used were both niehoff. thanks
