Found this header on Craigslist. The guy says it is a "tuned" Hedman from the early 90's It is much longer than what they make no-a-days, and seems to be much thicker at the flange. The guy says he ground the logo off to weld it to his tool box which just seems odd to me, so there is no identifying factors on it. I am wondering what the heck it is, and if it is worth putting on my truck. Right now i am running stock manifold with a very ˟˟˟˟ty muffler halfass attached. I have decided to do the exhaust right since i just rebuilt the engine with a cam, added and Offenhauser intake and a Weber carb. Let me know what you guys think it is, and what you think it is worth.

 

Looks like a PaceSetter that has been hacked up a bit too me. I've only seen the shorty Hedman headers before so I'm doubting that it is a headman. Either way, it doesn't look like it's in great shape to me. Depending on your budget, I would drop some dime on LCE, Rock Ripper or Doug Thorley headers.

 

I am not sure what to make of them either, but the guys swears up and down that they are original Hedman Hedders from the early 90's. He wants $150, for me to drive 50 miles to get them, was unwilling to negotiate price or meeting me somewhere. He claims that the slits in the flange are intended to help with the rapid cooling and heating up, and claims that he did not cut the slits. They look a lot like the OBX headers that are on the market now.

Does that mounting flange in the picture look larger than what usually comes on cheap headers? They do seem quite thick to me.

I have been searching for about 6 months at least for a decent set of Thorley, or LCE headers. I just cannot afford to spend the $400 to get them new. Are Rock Rippers any good? I have heard very mixed things about them.

Thanks for the input and please let me know if you know of anybody in the Northwest (Oregon) area that is trying to sell a set of reputable headers.

 

Those look pretty hammered to me. I don't think it's worth it. I had a set of headmans I put on in '95 IIRC and they didn't look anything like that. They were the stubbys you still see and I thought they were garbage. You'd be much better off saving up and getting a new set to thorleys, LC's, or something. I've had my NWOR header on for 15+ years and ~130k mi and they look like new compared to those "headmans".

 

For $150, you can get a new set of OBX or Pacesetter headers (because that is basically what the guy is trying to sell you). I'd save your money and buy a decent set, but certainly don't buy the garbage this guys is trying to sell you. Thorley tri-y headers are the best available for our trucks, but LCE and RockRippers are good too. LCE and RR share the same design, but RR is a little easier on the pocket. Personally, I used stainless RockRippers on my build. I haven't fired it up yet, but they sure do look good LOL.

 

Well thanks for in the input. i'll save that money and keep searching for something better.
