More work!!

Had my buddy Andy rebuild the carb for the truck. He's been rebuilding motorcycle carbs for years so why not have someone with the knowledge do it.



All done and on the truck with the air cleaner too.



I also popped the fenders off too so I can do some body and paint work. Found out that the passenger side rocker is toast. I'm thinking I'll just cut both rockers out and weld some box plate in their place instead.




I tried to completely disassyemble the Chevy leafs so I could paint them and replace the bushings, didn't go as planned. Bolts are seized in both bushings on bolt leafs. Tried to beat and torch them out to no avail. I will try air tools on them and see if that works. Couldn't get the center pin out of one, it's spinning in the leaf so I'll have to work on getting it out.
So once they are apart I will paint them all up and replace what I need too. I also want to put some UHMW-PE(Ultra High Molecular Weight - PolyEthylene) between the leafs.

 

Some of that rust makes me cringe, but it will yield much higher satisfaction when you're done.

 

Rust is something we've got to deal with in Canada. I hate the stuff but it's a fact of life.

I forgot to post a pic of the new header installed. It only took me about 15 minutes to install it so I don't know why people complain about a header install being hard.



I've got a Flowmaster Hushpower 2 muffler for it that I will weld on eventually. Once it's on I'll get some sound clips.

The man in the brown suit dropped these at my door today. My first part from Marlin but definately not my last.

 

Picked up my IFS Steering box tonight.

I'll be cleaning it up and tapping it for the Hydro Assist tomorrow evening.

Well, on the way home I decided to work on the Yoter tonight.
So we went about cutting the floors out.







Plus Andy started making new body mounts.


While Chris and I had some beers and munchies.

 

Fixing the rust and putting in seats of some sort then wheeling it for now.
I've got some better plans for next year; aluminum dash, custom gauges, custom console, lots of stuff.

 

nice, i hated my 80 because of the rust in the floorboards, i used an old cookie sheet

 

Some REAL progress was made this weekend. Fist Andy and I removed the flat bed from the truck and took the gas tank out. Had to cold chisel a captive nut out to drop it which really friggin sucked.


From there we had time to kill till my buddy showed up to help with some more work so we did some less important things.
Half doors!



Grinder with cut off wheels made pretty quick work of it. I chopped up some 3/8" bar I had to make braces/stiffeners for inside the door and then started to plate it off.

 

Around this point in time, Dylan (huckthehaus) showed up. Huge thanks to time for making the drive out and staying till 1AM last night fixing my frame.
Here's what it looked like when we started.



Then Dylan started cutting out the frame, we started with the driver's side.


Patch panels were made and Dylan welded them in place. As a note, having breakers in your house that can handle a welder are nice. I kept tripping mine every few minutes and had to go reset thus ADDING time to the whole process.




BAM, finished! No more hole filled rusty frame.


Then we started on the passenger side.

 

We had to almost totally remake this section of the frame. The only orginal part left is the top and maybe a quater of the outside.

Around this point in time Chris showed up to check on our progress and of course horse around. I also through the Grand Cherokee seats in for ☺☺☺☺s.


Chris had to test the Flintstone braking system. I don't think it will pass inspection though.


Back to work. Welding started.


Now I stopped taking pictures for a bit because I was tired and simply forgot but here's the finished product with some black paint on it for now. I'll under coat it in the next week days.

This week I'll finish making the tube doors, still need to put a cup holder in them, plate them and mount things like lock cylinders and door handles.
Also I'm going to start in on welding the new floors in.

I'll get done what I can but I'm busy since I'm getting ready for a trip to the Dominican. I leave on Saturday morning

I haven't touched this thing in over a week, been on vacation in the Dominican Republic.

I'm going to start doing some more work this week. Start getting the floors in, mount the seats, pick up the new fuel tank etc.
I'm either going to order more parts for my steering or some sliders or just save up and buy my tires. I really want to get the rubber on the truck.

 

Did some more chopping on the Toyota today.
Finished cutting the floors out of it.



Plus I cut the fire wall so I can tub it for the tires.



I personally didn't think this was enough room. The wheel wells still looked a lil small to me so I stood back and looked at the truck.

 

This might work I think, no turning back now.






I can fit in my wheel wells now, should work great for the rubber I'm planning.
I'll be welding the floors in this Saturday

Plus I chopped that damn cow catcher off.

 

For the record, Toyota run AWESOME on brake cleaner.
Now all I need is a gas tank.

 

Not much left of the original sheet metal. Did you get the new floor panels and wheel wells in yet? I feel luck my floor panels are in pretty good shape. Only need to do about a 6x6" panel..

 

I haven't had a chance. My friend is doing it and he's PACKED with cutting over a large customer at work right now.
The truck will be ROLLING by the end of July, that's my goal.

I'm just working on everything else that needs to be done right now. Getting closer and closer to finishing it.

 

Floors are ready to be welded in. Picked up 12' of 2x3x1/8 tube for new rockers. Hope to weld it all in in the the next week or so. Working on paint the exterior. Picking up a gas tank and ordering an electric fuel pump and FPR tomorrow.
