Does any one know where to get a aftermarket oilpan?
MIne keeps leaking from years of over tighting. i have replace the gastet twice. so i need a new a oil pan maybe like a larger one? or stock replacement? maybe a better gasket?

use some rtv. The the black can called the "Right stuff" is the best rtv ive used.

itll be a pain to take off again but it aint gonna leak

 

I use permatex rtv ultra black high temp silicone. Never had any problems.

 

I really like the Right stuff becuase of the easy use nozzle unlike the press ones that are so hard to squeeze once used one time!

Rtv is the way to go IMO

 

Early oil pans have raised valleys, and relied on cork gaskets. Incredibly ineffecient and prone to leaks. PLus, you cannot use RTV on the early pans. It squishes out, and will flatten the raised beads.

Do yourself a favor, and find a used/new oil pan from an 85-95 22R 4x4. The valleys are lowered instead of the raised bead, and merely requires some FIPG (Fill in place gasket; use the Toyota brand stuff it WORKS) to seal properly.

Its a direct swap requiring only a new drain plug and drain plug gasket.

 

i never saw any raised beads on the oilpans i've dealt with. the one in my old '79 worked just fine with gray RTV silicone.

 

All 79-84 used a raised bead oil pan, while 85-95 used a sunken bead.

They also used a 19mm drain plug 79-84, then switched to a 14mm plug 85-95.

 

Yeah....I noticed that the Haynes manual says that pre-84 oil pans need a gasket, otherwise on anything newer you can use RTV. My 83 has the raised surface.....but I used black rtv only...didn't read that until I had already done it. No leaks yet, but we'll see. I guess if there are, I'll look for a later model pan.

 

the trick for best sealing , using RTV .. is to "squirt" out the bead , and let it set .. give it some time to "tack up" and then install the pan .. and be sure not to tighten to much as to "squish" it all out .. and then let it "set up" .. 24hrs is best .

 

so what is the general consensus??? i have an 81 leaks bad from everyplace probably lol oil pan,,,gasket- no rtv,,,gasket- with rtv,,,no gasket- only rtv. those are the questions,,,

 

Like i said...get an 85+ pan, and use Toyota brand FIPG. Leak cured.
