Oil leaking out of vent line filter?!

Is there any way oil could be leaking out of this?

It only leaks when i drive it and i cleaned off the valve cover and a few days later it was covered in oil?

Why would this be leaking and how do i fix it?

blowby, bad pcv valve is most likely the culprit, especially when i look and see that the pcv vacuum line is not hooked up. However bad rings or valve seals causes excessive crank case pressure as well, but mine does this too and it only has 6500 miles on it, a little bit of oil is normal but without PCV vacuum in the valve cover/crank case, pressure builds up and forces the oil that splashes around in there to come out that line.

I can see the pcv valve in the back ground and it looks like the line from it is going towards the fire wall, that don`t look right.

Yeah i was thinking of putting the disconnected hose to where the filter was.

But i dont know if It needs to let off that pressure?

He doesn`t know what he`s talking about.

If your getting oil out of the filter in the picture, that`s called blow by. Its caused by the ring not sealing well in the cylinders so the presure from the compression of the pistons is blowing past the rings and coming out of that filter. That`s a bad thing, you need to do a compression check and see what the numbers are.

I dont imagine it would be the rings not sealing.

The engine was built not too long ago.
And was just gone through when the head gaskets were done 3k miles ago.
Couldn't it just be the PCV valve like xxxtreme22R said?

Because where the filter is its just a tube with that filter on it.

i have yet to do a compression test,it is not alot of oil either.my engine only has about 8-10 ttousand miles on it would i be correct to assume my rings did not seat correctly

That`s possible, but you need to do a compression test to see what the numbers are, how does it run otherwise ?.

Runs like a raped ape!
Will pull 75 on the free way with 35s and 4.10s and run trails like no other.

Doesnt run Weird at all.
And i change the oil every 1500 miles because its not driven often.
But i was told i should try using a 40 oil because i usually use 10-30

mine
runs great, bogs down a little but i think the cat is pluged up a little, bought truck with head gasket failure,i know that tends to plug cats pretty quick and put my good motor in out of my 2wd.that could be causing some high exhaust pressure

The only way that oil will blow out of the valve cover vent is with excessive blow by and that`s caused by the rings not properly sealing. If you can, do a compression check and see what you come up with. Everything may be fine, but it doesn`t hurt to check and make sure.

My Brother in law has the kit for it,

But until i can get my hands on it i guess i'll put a PCV valve in.

guy guy guys, he is gonna have excessive pressure in that valve cover as long as that PCV is not hooked up. My motor does the same thing and my compression is 100% good, 170 in each cylinder and brand new head.

the end of that PCV line goes to manifold vacuum. I cannot for the life of me rememebr where the stock one goes, I have a weber so the end of that line goes to somewhere different but it's still direct manifold vacuum. I want to say it goes to the passenger side of the intake manifold but your hose looks like it's too short to reach there. Then the front vent line goes to underneath the air cleaner.

Looks like you also have a vacuum line missing from the distributor and the top of the air cleaner as well.

there is a bvsv i see there too that has both vacuum lines missing from it too, I believe one of those goes to the distributor and the other side goes to somewhere on that vacuum rail on the side of the valve cover. That bvsv when it opens due to temperature will create a vacuum leak.

Well there is actually a weber under there i just couldnt get it air tight with out fabbing the factory air box on to it for my snorkel.
and the distributer has a hose running into the cab from PO?
The loose one in the back was the on the valve cover was into the little air box on the weber. The vent filter was there when i got it.

whoa ok, now this is a different story, that back one would not go to the air clear the front one does, the back one would go to the replacement barb that comes with the weber kit that goes in place of the old egr pip that got removed when the weber went on, the distributor vacuum where you have it on the distributor is right and I cannot tell but that should be directly into the carb.

and disregard what i said about that bvsv there is no vacuum supply to it and it's not needed and WILL NOT create a vacuum leak.
