NEW to FORUM and YOTAswith a question
I am looking to sell my Jeep in order to build a yota. I am looking for a solid front axle truck, preferable 1st gen, nut also like the extended cab. My question in what to look for in these trucks? How would and extended cab fit with a 1st gen front clip (fenders hood grill)?, What axles are in them and what will they handle. The truck will not stay stock, ie: 4 link front & rear, bobed and dovetailed, no bed floor, fuel injected 5.0 ect...
Thanks for your help. This is a whole new adventure for me as I am a Jeep guy looking to build a Toyota

Welcome to the right side you should have been on the entire time
Sounds like you pretty much just want the cab. If you want a ford 5.0 Ide say get a body and frame from the yard and throw some 60's under it and call it good
the 85 and older has Solid axle fronts the 84-85 are just a bit stonger with a full truss on the bottom of the alxe. they can handle a good amount but tires over 37 are begging to break diffs. thats where longfield comes in! (axles)
Over 39's on leaf springs your more likely gonna rub the springs but it sounds like your gonna be linkin it anyway
newer than 85 trucks have IFS
Search and you shall find all you need to know.

You're definitely making the right decision going from a Jeep to Yota.
Please use the search feature in the toolbar above, all of the answers to your questions are out there.
Good luck, I sense a pretty awesome build-up in the works!

I didn't get rid of the Jeep yet. Its for sale as of right now. If it don't sell its no biggie, but its a little ugle although it works like a dream.
So will the front clip off of a 1st gen fit, and look alright with the body line of an 84-85? Whats the diffrence that makes the 84-85 axles a bit stronger? 37's are what I plan on running so would they have no problem with a 5.0 or will they be right on the edge? I will be moving near Tellico soon, keep that in mind.
I can pick up an 82 for 800 bucks that if fine except for the bed floor witch I don't plan on using anyway, and the intake is off of the motor but needs a new carb, Will the extended cab fit with the front clip and is this a good starting piont?

Ide go into more details about the whole axle strength and all but the search button at the top works great
Youll find out all you want to know using it
Ide go 60's with a 5.0 if I were you.

The first gen front clip doesn't look so hot with the 2nd gen cab, and it isn't a bolt on. If you want an Xtra-Cab, buy an 84-85. With the proper upgrades you're going to be just fine with the stock axles, just run Longfield axles and hub gears in the front and you'll be just fine unless you like to just beat the ever living hell out of the truck.

Well I think I might be able to do with out the extended cab, but its all about the right deal, and I can get an 82 for 800, as far as the axles, I'll beef them up until they break. Just so you know, I'm harder on my Daily Driver on a calm day than most people are on there trail trucks on a rough day, so I'll probly do 60's down the road but I'll try and make the stock axles last in the mean time
