Need help identifying this part

So the blower motor in my 82 pickup went out. Should be a simple fix, right? Wrong. I have been to every single auto parts store in the area, a toyota dealership, the local wreckers, and even reached out to a toyota specific wrecker looking for a replacement heater blower motor for my 82 pickup. The main issue I keep running into is the flange size on the replacement motors is too large.

As far as I can tell, this is the OEM motor. I was able to plug in one of the new replacements from the auto parts store to verify that the OEM motor is in fact bad. Unfortunately, as stated before, I cant bolt ANY of the replacements up because the flange sizes are all too big. This truck has AC (and yes I have tried both AC versions and non). There is a number printed on the motor itself but a google search produces a blower motor for a 1981 toyota starlet. When I look for a replacement motor for a toyota starlet, I get the same large flange version that wont fit my truck.

In my digging, I read on the marlin forum that there are a number of different ventilation configurations in the early year pickups where some of the trucks were plumbed to defrost the side windows to allow a person to see the side mirrors, and some were not. Mine does have the extra ventilation plumbing. So im wondering there is a heavy/light duty distinction for these motors?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Im stumped!

As far as I can tell, there were three different versions for the 1982 model year:

Unfortunately, all have been discontinued, and I am not sure which part number goes with which version.

You can try plugging your VIN into https://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q.html and see which part is supposed to come up for you. It is also possible that someone switched heater assemblies from another version.

How is the flange attached? Is the new motor the same size? Can you remove the flange from your truck and swap it onto a new motor?

Maybe have your existing fan motor fixed. We have an electrical motor shop here in town that does that type of work. You should be able to find a shop like that near you.

This has certainly narrowed it down for me a bit, thanks!

So I think it may actually be 87104-95401 based on the rough drawing of the flange on the blown up schematic. The parts dept at my local Toyota dealership seemed to point me in the same direction. The flange is a pretty distinct indication of their differences between 87104-95401 and the 87104-95403. The latter, (95403) is "with cooler". any idea what that means? I cant seem to cross reference that PN (87104-95401) against any aftermarket blowers....ergg

Cooler is Japan’s terminology for a/c

87104-95401 was superseded by 87104-95A00.
adding to confusion is none of these numbers are the original part numbers that would have been used in the 1980’s. It should have been something like 87104-89xxx. The first group of five numbers tell you what the part is, in this case 87104 is heater blower motor, and the second group identified which vehicle. “89” meant truck. In the next gen. truck starting in 8/83 Toyota used “35”

I ran into the same issue when I replaced mine. Try 4 Seasons part #35558. Fit my '79 perfectly. Here is one on ebay that looks right to me: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...kzs1_jifjhzoc-

Look closely at the photos. I also saw one listed as part #35558 that looked totally different and was clearly not the right part so beware.

Oh, this is a good lead! I will see if I can get a local auto parts store to order one for me so i can avoid the return shipping debacle from an online retailer. Ill make sure to pay closer attention to the appearance of the part as opposed to its PN.

THANKS AGAIN.
