Need help with engine removal

Hey all-

I'm in the process of removing the engine out of my 83. I need some help, I'm probably in way over my head. I have the hoist and everything disconnected I think. My problem is that the engine is not coming out. The tranny raises up as much as the engine does. I took 4 bolts out of the bell housing, what am I missing??

I'm sure that there will be plenty more questions to follow....
Thanks for the help.

Derek

Haha, well I got two coming from the engine block into the tranny, and two coming from the tranny into the engine block (these were the two on top).
The starter is out, and the exhaust is unbolted

There are 6 or 8 bolts on the bell housing you need some goofy arrangment of extensions to get over the clutch slave, you must be missing a few

Well...I'm going to take out every bolt that I can see.

Now that I think about it, I should probably be taking pictures and labeling some of this stuff, in case I actually get to a point where I can put it back together

Yeah go around the engine and tranny sides, all the way around and feel for bolts. Once they're all out, remember that these two things have been mated together for 25 years so they're pretty stuck. It'll take some convincing. You can jack up the tranny a bit to see if a different angle helps. It'll eventually break free, just make sure all the bolts are out before you really wrench on things.

+ the starter bolts , and 2 un-labled .

once all the bolts are out .. you need to lift the engine just a wee bit and "wrigile" it away from the tranny ..

.

yeah, and then be sure to pull the engine away from the tranny before you hoist up, it needs to come off the shaft coming out of the tranny...you dont want to bend that.

Thanks for all the help fellas.

The engine is out! For some reason I decided to bypass the 4 bottom stiffener plate bolts the first time around She came right out after I removed them

More questions will follow, when I'll need you guys to remember where all the stuff goes that I took off
