Mystery of the disappearing fuel

I have notice just recently, when I shut down the truck for a few hours, when I restart, I have to crank for 10 or 15 seconds to get a light off. This is new. Usually It fires up as soon as you touch the key.. Today I was working on some things for an hour or so and notice the clear glass fuel filter 12 inches from the carb was empty. I took a bit of cranking to get the fuel back up to the carb and get a light off. The garage smelled like gas but I follow the lines back to the tank and could find new leaks. What keeps the fuel from draining down ward,,, the fue pump??? The weber carb is new. If the needle seat were leaking the float bowl would dump but the fuel should stay in the fuel line.. Any suggestions as to where to look

inspect the lines from the filter to the pump and back to the carb, remove your air cleaner assembly and inspect the lines at the carb.
Clear glass filter--maybe hairline crack, $4-5 will net you a plastic one.

Pulled the top and checked the float, needle seat.... all looks good. but the fuel in the float bowl was pretty warm. I am now thinking that the hot fuel line and fuel in the carb is expanding some how. there was a lot of pressure in the fuel line when I disconnected it after sitting for 20 minutes. The pressure is forcing the fuel where ever is least resistance. I will reroute the fuel lines away from the engine.
I love that weber It is smooth from idle all the way through the power curve. somebody jetted this thing perfectly. I get a bit tired of listening to the air sucking through the carb though. One vacum line to the distributor. nice..... 32/36 DGV weber wish I had a quieter air cleaner
