Looking for more guidance.

I’m trying to find window molding for my 1983 pickup. I’m finding parts are tough to find! Yotajim wasn’t an answer. Maybe I’m asking in vain, but trying to find folks that have redone their door panels. What did you use for the molding? I’ve seen it called window reveal molding. Thanks.

Are you looking for the felt-backed rubber weatherstrip that goes against the glass? Inside or outside piece?

I need both inside and outside. I made new door panels that don’t come up as far as the stock panels. Nothing like buying a farm truck then getting addicted to fixing it up!

I don’t mean to seem needy. But it’s amazing to me how few of people are willing to help locally. I rebuilt a 47 chevy pickup while in a street rod club and it seemed to much easier. The problem is that was 15 years ago! It just seems harder to find Toyota parts

American cars, particularly the popular ones have whole aftermarket catalogs just full of replacement parts, and our Toyotas don't have that kind of aftermarket support, so when Toyota discontinues a part, it can be difficult getting them.

Do you think the factory parts would work with your new door panels or do you need something custom?

My door panels are original (and is a newer body style, but very similar), so I cannot speak from first hand experience.

In the diagram below, the inside weatherstrip is reference number 68170 and the outside weatherstrip is reference number 68161.

Diagram source: parts.toyota.com

It appears the inside felt weatherstrip is no longer available from Toyota and I haven't seen an aftermarket replacement.

The outside pieces should still be available from Toyota, and are the same part for both doors. Below is the part number:

WEATHERSTRIP, FRONT DOOR GLASS, OUTER
WITH VENT WINDOWS

68160-89105

You can get it from online dealers or order them at your local Toyota dealership.

Thanks for all the help 87! What you found is what I’ve run into. I can get the parts out of Taiwan actually, but it could take over a month to get here and I’m not sure how comfortable I am. They are on eBay....maybe I should just buck up order them and wait. The door panels I’ve made I have seen other folks do the same before, but haven’t been able to see what they door for that part of the door. I’m fine with even fabricating something if I had an idea.

For what it's worth, I ordered a set of tail lights from ebay via taiwan and they worked. I don't think the shipping took as long as they said it would. 2 weeks maybe. Am I proud of this fact? No. But they got the job done and the price was good.

Keep us updated on what you find, I need the same stuff.
