Trans in my 80' 4x4 gave up a week or so back. So there's my excuse to go 5speed. I picked up what I'm pretty sure is a g58 trans out of a fourunner.
I know I'll need to modify the rear trans mount, and get both driveshafts made to the correct length. Oh yeah and I was told I'll prob need a spedo cable extension.
Other than that what else am I gonna need to do this swap?

 

I have a later model v6 transmission in my 88. bolted right in. lol

shouldn't need anymore more. maybe a speed sensor, who knows.

 

To clarify. The trans i picked up is complete with transfer case. I'm wondering if I'll be able to mount my existing transfer case (off my stock L43), onto this G58 transmission at a later date.

If i could that would allow me to, at leisure, install a 4.70:1 low range gear in that case. It would cut down by down time to just the time to swap the transfer cases.

I would just do it now, however the $$$ isn't there at the moment.
