L50 to L52 swap

Hey guys I have an 81” Pickup 4wd (DOM 08/1980) that came with a L50 Tranny. It’s about to blow… I can feel it in my loins. So I picked up a L52.

My question is, is it a direct bolt in not only with the 22r but ALSO the Transfer case?

I did some research on older threads and there was some info about it being a direct bolt up BUT I also read somewhere that the splines need to be grinded down to fit the older transfer case. Is that true? Or will the L52 just fit perfectly into the Engine and Transfer case? Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find that thread I read about the grinding down of the splines. Looking for some help and maybe this post can help out another newbie. Thanks again!!

L50 and L52 are 100% bolt up swap.
The later W and G series trans are longer so they require moving the crossmember back.
Your transfer case will bolt up directly to any of these.

The only thing about the splines for the T case I'm aware of is that I believe that the turbo truck trans and t case had a higher spline count.

Sweet! I figured so but I’m a noob to the truck learning as I go. Thank you for the quick response! It’s much appreciated
