I'm pulling the engine

I' rebuilding an 83 4X4 and will be pulling the engine soon. For those of you that have done this is it easier to seperate the manual trans and transfer case from the engine before pulling it or should I leave them together and pull it as a unit and seperate them later?
Thanks

I have always left them together on many different vehicles and I don't think its any harder.

Things can get a little unbalanced with the trans and transfercase still attached. Do you have a adjustable sling that can move the center point?

In my opinion is easiest way out is to separate the transmission from the motor, Pull the motor, then drop the transmission and transfer case together. Even easier is pulling the cab off the frame, 6 bolts.. not many wires/connections and it lifts up over the motor with a 4-5 guys or a hoist.

I found that taking out the Rad, Fan, and hood off makes the motor come out much easier. Just unbolt the engine mounts from frame, take the starter off and unbolt the motor from the tranny, then just hoist it out. Might need a jack/block to support the tranny from the ground so it dont droop down too much

Thanks for the info. I'm getting an adapter for my floor jack to hold up the tranny/t-case so I think I'll try separating them first.
