Hello, looking for some advice. (hope I'm not asking an FAQ)
I got a box off of a '94. I reached out to Trail Gear for install instructions with their mounting plate kit.
My problem is I can't get 1/4" away from the body mount due to the bumper mount on top of the frame.
Is it necessary to cut that bumper mount off of the frame to get the box closer to the body mount? (I'm an inch away)
I rather not continue chopping if I don't have to. Box hitting bumper mount
I'd have to look at mine when I get home, but the usual answer to "where do I mount the box for high steer" is "as far forward as you can".
I used the kit from Sky's offroad and don't remember having to hack bumper mounts.
Another thought is that with the pitman arm pointed straight back, the drag link should be close to parallel to the tie rod. If you achieve that, you're good to go.
That, and make sure that the spring can't hit the pitman arm or the drag link when the drivers side is at full suspension compression.
I've cycled the steering back and forth to make sure it clears the frame and springs.
I'll go ahead and check the clearance with some suspension compression.
