Ideas to stop a theif
I'm trying to add "security" for my truck. I know the popular solutions are to remove the ignition fuse, coil wire, switching ignition components.... Etc
But I think we are over looking something. Any ding dong can break in and put the truck in neutral and roll it straight onto a trailer or wherever they want.
I feel like the BEST anti-theft device is going to be something that locks the frame or axle even with a drive shaft off. You *could* drag it with a winch, but at least it won't be easily stolen. If its chained to the frame up you couldn't even drag it Some 3/8"+ wire or your winch cable wrapped around a good size tree (or immobile object) is effective, but hard to do in a parking lot.
I'm just not sure what a good driveline immobilization would be. Electrical stuff is easily defeated and if they don't have a trailer it may piss them off and they just push it down the hill in neutral.
I thought about parking-violation "boots" but they look silly and are bulky.
I once knew a guy who dug a hole in his driveway 6' deep and 6'' wide then put a chain in the hole before filling the hole with concrete. So when he backs his boat over it, he takes the chain that's sticking out, wraps it around the boat trailer frame then locks it!
Any ideas? Nothing is fail proof, but electrical cut-outs seem ineffective considering how easy it is to put these trucks in neutral. I've seen the brake pedal locks.. so easy to defeat.
Any ideas besides tracking devices?

Besides owning something that no one in this hemishere would be caught dead with? One thing to remember, a lock only keeps out an honest person. If you have something that desireable, someone will try to take it. How far they will go depends on how desireable it is to said thief. The example you gave about the chain for the boat is easily foiled by someone that is determined.

along with a few other things I have one of these:
I have been considering one of the Grant Removeable Steering wheel systems for a few years. TrekkerPaul gave me a Grant steering wheel out of truck he parted out so thought it was a good excuse to order one.
Cheapest place I found was from Jegs. Ordered on Friday, got here today(tuesday) awesome service IMO. About $50 lower than Auto Zone and $90 cheaper than Grant's List price of $215
Install time is probably 20-30 minutes or so.
Put the Grant Removeable steering wheel security thing in today:
Put the key in, a slight turn to the left and pop off the steering wheel:
Put the Red 'can't drive this one' warning in:
I think this will be a great way to help me keep my truck around...

nice, I love the cable, good deterrent. My cat was stolen in August while fishing the puyallup, dirtballs. at least they did a clean job and didn't mess anything up.
I like the 870 idea but it seems thieves are just too slippery...
just bought a security (game/trail) camera to catch dirtbags in the act.
I use the club everywhere I go even though it's not failsafe; then again nothing is.
RRoger hit the nail on the head I think.
One site I was reading about this topic was emphasizing the use of multiple deterrents vs. relying on one 'really good' one. A car alarm everyone ignores. club, quickly neutralized..... but BOTH in tandem plus maybe a kill switch or two = thief moves along.
If they are that motivated, there's not much you can do.
Also, the simple things will make a huge difference; park smart, avoid hidden or known bad areas, when at a retail store for example, park in view of likely security camera spots, use visible deterrents, etc... it cuts down your chances more than one might think. people want to hide their car to keep it from being seen; thieves will find it no matter what, park it where lots of people can see it.
