I can't find a '78 heater control valve
The heater control valve started leaking when I started using it. After spending several years in the same possition it didnt like being moved. I have the heater bypassed right now and had the core tested to make sure it was good. Its starting to get cold so I need to fix this.
I've checked every auto parts store in town except NAPA, including CarQuest and none of them can get it. So I called the dealer to cross reference it and it only fits '76-'78 pickups. They can get it but it will cost me $83. Do any of you know a cheaper source for this?

Try changing it over to a newer style, try a heater control valve from an 85 to 89 truck. im changing the heater control valve in my 85 over to one from an 89, because the 85 control valves are metal and tend to rust out and start leaking. the 87-89 heater control valves are plastic and will out last the earlier heater valves, and they won`t rust and start leaking.

Can you post some pics of the valves?
I'll get a pic of my valve and the numbers stamped on it up tomarrow.
I think in your case the design of the valve doesnt change, just the composition. I may have to get a similar valve and modify the linkage.

I have no way of posting pictures. do you have a pic n pull or wrecking yard near you ?, if so go and compare heater valves from different year trucks and pick the one that fits your truck the best.
post a picture of your valve so i can see what it looks like.
