Hey everyone, I just got an 84 4runner but someone has put a 20r engine in it. I would like to find out what year the engine is. I have cleaned off the number on the drivers side of the block. It is a little hard to read still but I think it says:
0418150 20R I will check it better after work. Is there a website I can put that number in and get information? Or, decode this number to get the year? Thanks.

 

Possibly an 81 but does it matter? As far as I know the 20Rs were all 20Rs, same thing year to year. You sure you don't just have a 20R head on a 22R engine?

 

I'm sure, the valve cover and the block itself say 20r on it. I just thought the first couple years the 20r had a few more hp than the later years. Maybe something was different, i don't know.

 

there is absolutly NO way to tell what year engine it is .. Toyota never published any info on the block #'s .. so it's not possable .


also
ALL the parts between the 20r's are interchangeable , so even the earlier points distributors , can be interchanged with the newer electronic distributors .. all the internals were the same ..
