Horrible whistling sound (with video)

Hey guys,
I have an intermittent sound that is driving me crazy. Some days I turn on the truck and its not there but usually I am greeted by this horrible sound while at idle or low throttle, it goes way under acceleration. Seems to be coming from the carb area (weber 32/36) but maybe something on the intake.

I have tried tightening various bolts on the carb base, egr plate, tweaked vac fittings and it doesn't seem to have any effect. Anyone else had this sound and tracked it down?

I literally had the exact same sound last week on my 20r Hilux with Weber 32/36 and fixed it over the weekend. I assumed it was an air leak at carb between the two piece adapter plate, replacing the gaskets resolved it. Tightening it up likely won't fix it, you need brand new gasket in there to seal it up. I took mine all apart and made my own gaskets from a sheet of 1/32" Karropak gasket paper. Probably took me 45 min total and I was taking my time since it was my first time doing this. My adapter plate ended up having one bolt that wasn't fully seating, leaving a slight high spot and a bad surface for the gasket to seal on. Filed the screw/bolt and all was good.
Good luck!

edit: in researching this I've found there are several one-piece adapters available for mating the Weber 32/36 to a Toyota aside from the 2-piece one Redline supplies. LCE makes a spiral/cyclonic version for the 22r which supposedly adds some HP, but it's still a 2-piece design for some reason.

Thanks, I will give that a go. I remember the gaskets supplied with it were paper thin so I'll try putting something more substantial in there.

The sound has been driving me mad!

Finally got around to taking the carb off and fixed the noise. Thanks HighonPottery!

Of the 3 gaskets between the carb and intake (because of the adapter plates) my problem on was the one sandwhiched between the 2 adapters. The studs hat thread into the top plate had pushed through the gasket an marred up the lower plate. So I just filed those flat and ended up using some Permatex ultrablack in place of a paper gasket.

yep, pretty much same spot i had a problem with - between the adapter plates. glad to heard you got it fixed. next time, IIRC you can use manila/file folder paper in place of paper gasket when you're in a pinch. I don't see why black RTV won't work either, just not my favorite to clean up when R/R.
