Gas tanks

hello yotatech

1980 toyota pickup 4x4 short bed. seems like me gas tank is about 12 gal? i do have aux tank which is about 8 gal. so i have about 20 gal tank. i am happy but i want more. 2nd gen trucks have 17 gal? which gen gas tanks will fit our 1st gens?

i researched and found that 4runner tanks won't work due to the filler neck differences on the runner to accomodate the rear seats. so that tank is out. i thought of the runner tank because i used to own a few 85 runners and had both 14 and 17 gal tanks.

anyway, i did more research and found that long bed of the same gen will not work due to the length. however some have fab up and MADE them fit. not bolt on like the 14 and 17 gal tanks of the runners...so long bed tanks are also out.

now, 2nd gen to 1st gen...hmm. 2nd gen tank sizes for short bed and would it be bolt on? i think of this becuase the bed's are able to be used between these gens. do they interchange???????

so yea...not actually a huge problem but more of a ...i want more than 20 gal. kinda want a 17 gal tank in the stock location in place of my 12. add that to my aux over my spare, 25 gal then i'd be happy.

I too was tired of the super small 12 gallon fuel tank. A couple of years ago fitted a 23 gallon early Ford Bronco tank under my bed where the original spare tire carrier was. It works great!

Why not just slap one of these bad boys in your bed?

They really don't take up all that much bed space.

I'd like to see that. Anything to keep from halling gas around four wheeling and hunting.
