I swapped the glass tube fuse panel from my 1980 for one with the plastic blade fuses from a junkyard donor. I think it was a 1982. I did one circuit at a time and spent a lot of time with the Clymer and Chilton wire diagrams. The newer fuse box has some minor differences from the older one, but I was able to have 2 more fuses to play with. I was kind of a pain to do but I'm glad I did.

rewiring the box will be a pain..i would solder and heat shrink each connection. that many quick connects will be bulky and most likely one will get fubarred

Soldering is the way to go. That's why it was a pain, on my knees half in half out of the truck. It only took about an hour to instal. Another good thing is it bolts right under the dash.

I have fixed the leaking window. The problem is that the fingers that hold the glass fuse in have broken over the years. you have to get the fuse in there just right for it to work.

I bit the bullet and rewired the whole truck using a painless 18 circuit offroad kit. It was not by any means "painless" (and I have a fair amount of experience, as well as the proper tools), but it has been incredibly rewarding in the end. My lights are brighter, everything works properly, and I got to cut out years worth of electrical hack jobs.
