Fuel Tank for a 1982

My fuel tank has some pin holes in it and I'd like to replace it. I cannot for the life of me find a 1982 longbed tank. Will I be able to buy an 84-88 shortbed tank and have it work? I'm not worried about the difference in capacity, and from what I understand the only difference size wise is the height. Any insight is appreciated!

Need confirmation, but I seem to remember someone on here finding that the tank for the 84-85 longbed (and/or the ex cab) could work on the 79-83 longbed with minor tweaks to the bracket or something like that. I took some note because I wanted more capacity, but those longbed tanks won't fit in my shortbed. Hopefully with the restoration values of these early trucks skyrocketing, we'll see some new support of reproduction replacement parts.
Sorry I don't have the hard answer, but I think it can be done.

Thanks for the reply!! I bit the bullet and ordered a tank from LCE for the 84-88 longbed after finding probably that same post earlier today. I'll make sure to post how it works when it arrives!

For anyone interested, the 84-88 tank fit without issue or drilling!
