front main oil seal?

She started leaking today, looks like from right behind the crank pulley. Called local parts shop and ordered a front main seal. Has anyone else done this already? Couldn't find a thread pertaining to this topic...do I just pull the crank pulley, and find the seal right behind it? How do I get it out? She's an 81 sr5 22r. Thanks.

This may help, rethink oil seal thickness.https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f114...81-2wd-126295/

I recently did mine on an 86 22r. Definitely get the seal from the1994 (i think). Its thinner 7mm vs 11mm. Set the seal like 1 mm deep. This way the worn groove on the shaft won't line up with the seal. Worked great.

Ahhhhhhhh..........thanks for the links..........I don't always get accurate results from searches bc I do them from my phone. It seems that everyone suggests using a later model seal, 94/95ish, due to being thinner and thus easier to position out of the existing groove worn in the pulley hub. I'll give it a shot...btw, I know its not the "proper" way, but can I put my socket on the crank pulley bolt and hit the starter to loosen it? Did that with other trucks with good results.
