fire breathing carb?

hello all ...first post on this site..i live on the north oregon coast and just finished putting a bran new head in the ol 83 4x4 and i got pretty good at it because i did everything at-least twice..

first of all i am a carpenter not a mechanic , i am handy with wrenches but not carbs..

i got the truck to idle great 950 rpms with a 5 deg advance time ..
but about every 15 seconds it pops and sputters and if i give it some gas it pops gas out of the top of the carb big time..its completely gutless (wont even move )

question is could i be a tooth off the timing chain? the egr was completely plugged and i cleaned it out before reassmbeling ...it has a weber carb on it and i believe all the vacs are hooked up proper..?

i just put a new fuel pump in her but that did nothing besides burn a hole in my pocket\

any thoughs would be super helpful

thanks

tj
