when i start the engine there is a ticking making my 20r sound like a simple generator engine its sounds like an exhaust leak but not sure suggestions?

 

Could be an exhaust leak...


Could be timing chain, valves etc.

IF somebody didn't strip the exaust manifold bolts (way too commonly they have), then it's a pretty quick/easy/cheap job to replace the exhaust manifold gasket, if that's where it's leaking. Exhaust leaks (especially at the manifold) are usually pretty loud.
