Dry oil filter???
hey guys, back again with another strange thing that happened.. so today changed my oil and filter, and when i pulled the oil filter it looked pretty dry, didnt have any oil pouring out at all, im used to changing filters that hang upside down like in my subaru but this had me a little worried that maybe my oil pump is bad? what do you guys think.. and when i did all this the motor was not started for at least 24 hours before the oil change so all was cold and unused..

how long has it been sence you changed it? the only time i have ever seen this is after a rebuild running it for alot of miles and cloging the filter with junk causing the filter to be bypassed.. either way, its not good.

What kind of filter??
You mean you changed the oil cold after it sat for 24 hours ??
Your filter was bone dry or it had very little oil??
If it was a cheap filter with no with drain back valve it could have been empty but not dry.
Why would you change the oil cold I am curious??
If your oil pump was that bad you would also have some bearings knocking by now

thanks for the input guys.. i happened to change it cold that day because i was in a rush to do it before it got way too cold outside (it was bad winds) and no the engine runs sound not a tick at all it runs great.. the reason i changed it was because the oil filter had a date on it 1/28/09 so its been how long? and upon dipstick inspection the oil was very black, just wanting to do maintanance.. tomorrow i will get to do some more work on the truck i will have it started up and warm and pull the new oil filter out to see if its getting any oil through it.
