Custom Alternator Question

I recently swapped a new engine into my 82 truck and decided to discard my problematic (ie sqeaky) home made chevy alternator setup in favor of an internaly regulated toy alternator. Now my battery will not recharge. The alternator reads less than one volt, usualy .2 or so, and the electric system reads 11.7 at idle. Is the toy alternator really internaly regulated like the Chevy, or do I need an auxillary regulator? I have tried a junkyard alternator as well as a new alternator with identical results. Does anyone make a kit to cleranly mount a Chevy alternator to a 22R?

The eraly Toyota alternators were externally regulated. I think they went to internally regulated around '84 or '85.
