My '83 22r temperature sensor is not working. I took a temp sensor from my '80 20r and get no reading at all.
Does the temp sensor on these older R have any other function other than just the temperature gauge? Does it effect Idling?
Can I just install a aftermarket Temperature gauge and not use the dash gauge and nothing will go wrong?

 

The temp sender is in it's own circuit, nothing else attached. Take the sender out and test per the FSM
