Charge Light

I got home one day and my truck wouldn't start. Used another car to jump it and it started fine so I assumed the alternator went out and drained the battery.

Went ahead and replaced the alternator after the old one tested bad. Got the battery fully charged by a nice charger my friend has.

Got the truck started back up today and now the charge light stays on all the time. The charge light only came on a couple times before the alternator went bad, usually when I pulled up to a stoplight it would idle bad and the charge light would flicker.

So now I'm thinking charge relay is bad or the regulator. When the truck is idleing now the voltage at the battery reads about 12.4 so it seems the new alternator is not charging.

Where is the relay located on the truck and where can I get a good one (besides Toyota)?

sounds like a bad alternator replacement , not at all uncommon .. internal brushes are not contacting the armature .

did you "trade in" the original alternator ? (core charge)

simple fix on an original .. = replace brushes ~ $5.00 .
