Changing Rear Window

I currently have the sliding rear window which I would love to keep...but with the subs on the back wall I can't get the rattling to stop. So, the next best thing is to go to a solid rear window. Has anyone done this? Are the seals different between a slider and solid? I've done as much dyno-matting and sound deadening as possible but can't the rattle to stop.

From what I can tell from my parts diagram, they are the same. With the subs being mounted to the back wall, you will have a lot of vibration from the low frequency output, and I really don't know if changing windows will cure the problem.. Maybe you could shock mount them to cut some, or mount them under the seats

Well, I wouldn't say that I'm overly tall (5' 9") and I do have to sacrifice some driving comfort as the seat is a little closer to the steering wheel than I would like. If I can get rid of the window rattle...it'll be worth it. The subs are down low so the box tapers with the angle of the seat and the amps fit into a natural recess in the bench seat back..

On my 81, the sliding window had a broken latch, and the glass rattled bad. So I removed the slider and used it as a pattern to cut a solid window from smoked Lexan. I used the original window rubber seal from the slider. The lexan window has been in the truck for close to 10 years now with no problems. I'm not sure you could get a non slider in a first gen Toyota truck. I'm pretty sure every one I've seen has had a slider, even two wheel drive trucks. If you could get a solid window it would have been pretty rare. That being said I,m sure someone on here will correct me on this. You could have a glass shop cut you a solid window from glass using your slider as a pattern. As long as your rear window rubber seal is in good shape, with no cracks, it will work with a solid piece of glass. Check with rockauto.com to see what they have available.

You didn't give much to work with on the vehicle details..

Yes the opening in the rear panel is the same, but the window on the one piece is a typical gasket style.

x2!

That is a lot of speaker for such a small cab.

Are you able to figure out what exactly is causing the rattle? Maybe loose fitting slider glass from worn weatherstripping? Maybe turn down the music? (I know, that probably won't happen... )

Either way, a solid rear window would help.

Yeah...it just seems to be the individual panels knocking into each other. I've tried packing in some high density foam pieces around the edges which has helped but hasn't cured the issue. I'll swing by a glass shop today and see what they can do.

Thanks for everyone's input!
