Calif. Catalyst E.G.T. Sensor
My rebuilt 83 4X4 seems to be running rich. It smells rich and the mileage is lower than I would like (around 15-16 mpg). I replaced the O2 sensor and checked the EGT sensor function as described in the FSM and it apparently is not working. Instead of 2-200 kohms resistance it was open.
I called Toyota and was told it is a discontinued part. How important is the EGT sensor? Where can I get one? The carb has been rebuilt and I passed Calif. smog test (barely), but I want to get it running right. Any sugesstions?
When I had the engine rebuilt last year I changed all the vac. lines and cleaned out the EGR valve. Exhaust is stock and I'm not sure how old the CAT is.
