A/C ?s Fed and Ca differences

I've been trying to find info on the A/C systems that originally came in the first gen trucks.

I just purchased an 83 that originally came with A/C, but had all the engine side components (compressor, condenser, accumulator) removed.

I've read that there were two different systems, federal and CA. Is the only way to find out what originally came on the truck to have a dealer run the vin and let you know?

I've found a compressor, condenser, and accumulator that should work. The compressor has two different part numbers based on whether it was federal or ca (I think?). The most difficult part has been trying to locate a bracket for the compressor and accumulator. Called yoda jim and no luck. Would a celica bracket possibly work?

It also looks like when they removed it originally it looks like they welded a piece on to the smog pump(?)

I havent dug into the interior stuff fully yet. Although so far the heat seems to work (slowly)as does the vent switches. Odd thing about the heat too is it seems to come from the defrost and lower vents, but not from the middle. The left and right most vents seem to operate independantly of the ac and always vent outside air, but that shouldnt be a tough fix.

ACkits is local to me, I'm working all day today, but was thinking of taking it there to see what they would recommend.
